Intelligence V/S Kindness!

Ever since I remember I used to always strive for intelligence. Read lots of business magazines, watch CNBC, analyze the news gathered and so on. Learning did give me a high level of inner satisfaction. But as I grew older, I started noticing that more than intelligence there is something else that is saving the world. When I was reading those business magazines my mom was cooking for the family. Now I do thank her and tell her that it would have been better if I had done some work in the kitchen and then read those magazines. I also missed a lot of things when I was reading in the bus and train thinking that I am making best use of my travel time.

My knowledge about economy did fetch me a good job, so I was proud about it. Then as time went by I became a mom. I am still keen about change in economy, interest rates and so on. But one day I took my kids to a breakfast get together to celebrate one of my friend's birthday party. We had a quick chat , ordered food and then one of my friend got up from her chair to cut up pancakes for my little one and said to me “ you have your food when it’s warm, you don’t get that always as a mom” and surprisingly that made a huge difference to me. There are lot more incidents like that, it could be my husband fixing child locks saving my time and energy, my mom coming to help out so that I can finish my education, my friend coming over with a meal when I had an ankle sprain, so the list is endless. The stuffs I read even today has made me learn a lot. It keeps me updated and confident to get into the job market in future. But when it comes to making a huge difference, I would say the act of kindness is the one.

I find many ignorant when they just sit back and talk about the industry, recession and all that jazz while rest of the family members are fixing dinner for them. It would be nicer if everyone offer a helping hand along with their talk keep going. I admire caregivers interacting with their kids in the park, rather than browsing their smartphones to gobble up more knowledge.

Intelligence & knowledge is a great tool to be successful. And with the help of handheld devices we are at great advantage to equip ourselves with good amount of knowledge. So if there is a need to make a choice between acquiring knowledge and being kind to somebody then definitely choose to be kind. We can always read news, but if you need to shovel snow for your neighbor then go for it. Keep your eyes and ears open, so that you can see people in need. With bombardment of information, I would never worry about missing any change in stock prices or whatever.
