Life is rapid paced these days. And technology is certainly giving that edge to keep up with the pace. Internet made us communicate through emails, apply for jobs and learn topics covering anything over & under the sun and much more. Then came GPS, a major time saver by giving step by step live directions when traveling. After that came internet on phone which led us stay virtually connected to current affairs, people and every other thing through apps. For a new mother like me these kind of technological advancements are more than just a boon. I need not worry about not having time to sit and read a newspaper, just browse through local news to WSJ while rocking my baby or just turn on BBC radio while driving. I am not fearful of exploring new far flung places with my little ones as I have my GPS to give me directions.
There are debates about the negative effects of technology. But according to me, nothing is a curse if not addicted and just used appropriately.
But trust me, in spite of all these magical developments even now I feel wish I had some kind of device to find my lost keys. Some device that could remind me when I need to get milk and yogurt. But those fantasies too are going to get real I believe.
IoT (Internet of things) a major breakthrough that’s going to happen because of today’s possibilities like multi connectivity through WiFi and reduction in technological costs. Connecting people-people, people-things and things-things are going to be the next major milestone. Anything and everything will be connected to the internet that can be switched on or off.
So what does that mean exactly? Google search “where is my keys?” and there it goes, tracking your keys having an unique IP. You can switch off your appliances through your phone from anywhere. And once your morning alarm goes off, your coffee starts brewing automatically. These are the benefits simplifying your daily routine. IoT can also be used to connect people. Baby’s movements, breathing and temperature can be monitored, a step above to baby monitors available today.
With growing population it is becoming more and more difficult to maintain the environment. But with the help of IoT, the garbage bins itself will notify when it needs to be emptied. And what amazed me is it’s role in oil and gas. Cisco says, “ Imagine a world in which : Hydrophones and geophones in the North sea more securely gather, store, and share data with geologists in the Middle East. A regulator valve on a British Columbia pipeline alerts of pressure drops before local communities complain of pipe leak smells.”
The list of benefits are endless and that makes me eagerly await for this wonderful advancement, provided the researchers find a way to keep all these data secure and free from hacking.
