Stress like we all know is a strain resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. It is usually felt when there is huge agenda to be completed within a particular deadline.
I always support smart work, great time management and multitasking to achieve desired goals. But sometimes it is not all that enough to sail through. When there is work pressure, usual tendency is to cut down recreational activities, then may be friends or family time, followed by time allotted to eat and exercise. The order might differ from individual to individual but the list remains more or less same for all of us. So the last thing we forego is sleep. Not that intentionally we allot time to sleep, it just requires a great amount of willpower to stay awake late or start your day early morning and sometimes even skip naps.
Ideally speaking it is always suggested that minimum 6-7 hours of sleep is good for health and some countries support siesta even at workplace. Sleep deprivation ill effects are being talked about lately as every third topic. But in today's demanding world, one not only needs time to accomplish tasks but also for recreation and hobbies. So instead of sacrificing your “me time” , cut down on sleep to accommodate all your requirements. And to your surprise when you finish your tasks, also stay connected to your hobbies and other significant activities you will have a sense of accomplishment. The scientific term would be “ release of endorphin”, a hormone that makes you feel elated after achieving your objectives.
I am still not very sure about health effects when there is sleep deprivation, but when there is drastic reduction in stress it might just get nullified and maintain overall health. And another thing is, life is nothing but to follow your dreams, achieve your goals and stay happy. And if we can stay happy by trading off little more of that sleep, I think its worth it.
